Philipp Plein was studying law when he began designing furniture for family and friends. His is designs soon drew attention of experts within the interior design industry and in 1998, the company PHILIPP PLEIN was founded. Plein started making bags and accessories from the leftover exotic leathers, which were sold alongside his design pieces at trade fairs. In 2003 the 25 year-old was asked to design a lounge at a German trade fair for Moet & Chandon, where he was also allowed to sell his accessories. Such was his success at the fair that the law degree was dropped, as was the furniture, and the fashion brand was born a year later in 2004. Since then the brand has gone from strength to strength opening more than 60 boutiques in 25 countries around the world, and it is not hard to see why. With immaculate shapes and sharp tailoring that are offset by graphic prints and slick metallic detailing they offer a playfully polished look. Distressed accents and opulent leather pieces typify the label’s rock ‘n’ roll-inspired aesthetic.
